A retrograde is an optical illusion with real meaning. From Earth, a planet appears to slow, stop and move backwards through the zodiac for a few weeks or months, before turning forward again over the same stretch of sky. Astrologers have read these periods for centuries as times of review: going back over something before moving on.

What most retrograde guides leave out is that a retrograde passes over the same degrees three times: once in the shadow before, once moving backwards, and once more in the shadow after. If one of your natal planets sits in that stretch of sky, you feel the retrograde three times over, on three precise dates. Those are the dates your report finds.

What is a personal retrograde report?

A map of every planetary retrograde over the next six months, read against your own birth chart: where each retrograde falls in your chart, which of your planets it crosses and on which dates, and practical guidance for before, during and after.

How is this different from a Mercury retrograde horoscope?

A horoscope is written for your Sun sign, one twelfth of everyone. Your report is calculated from your full birth chart, so the dates, the life areas and the planets it touches are yours alone.

Do I need my exact birth time?

It helps but it isn't essential. With a birth time we place each retrograde in your houses precisely. Without one, every retrograde date is still exact, your personal crossings are accurate to within a day or so, and the house placements are marked as approximate.

What period does the report cover?

The six months starting from the day you order, including any retrograde whose shadow period overlaps those six months, so nothing already under way is missed.

What is the calendar file?

A standard calendar file (.ics) that adds every personal date to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook, each with a short note, so no retrograde takes you by surprise. On iPhone, open it from Apple Mail and tap Add All. On Android, open it with Samsung Calendar or Outlook, or import it once at calendar.google.com and it syncs to your phone.

Will it fill up my calendar, and can I remove it?

It adds every personal date in your six months, usually between 25 and 60 short entries, each marked as free time so it never blocks your diary. For the tidiest result, create a new calendar first, call it Retrograde, and add the file to that. You can then hide the dates whenever you like, or delete that one calendar to remove them all at once. Adding it is entirely optional: every date is also in your report’s planner.

Is Mercury retrograde bad luck?

No. Retrogrades are review periods: excellent for revisiting, repairing and rethinking, less suited to rushing brand new starts. Knowing your exact dates lets you work with them rather than against them.
